Pavel Sobíšek
Pavel runs a small team of economists in charge of making macroeconomic forecasts of Czechia and Slovakia for UniCredit Group and its customers. He is responsible for preparing various research publications on behalf of the bank and contributing to CEE research projects coordinated from the Group level. His team is in addition involved in making projections of the Czech and Slovak banking sectors and monitoring financial statements of key players in the two markets. Part of the chief economist’s role is also to communicate the bank’s opinion on general economic topics at seminars, customer events and in media. Pavel has had a 30-year experience as a financial market analyst and economist and more than 20-year experience in research managerial roles. After having spent seven years working for Živnostenská banka, he joined in 1998 Bank Austria Creditanstalt, one of the banks that were later merged into UniCredit. Apart from his work for UniCredit, he is currently member of the forecasting panel at the Czech Banking Association and Chair of the Budgetary Forecast Committee at the Czech Fiscal Council. He is member of The Scientific Board at the Faculty of Business Administration of the Prague University of Economics and Business. He stood at the foundation of the Prague Stock Exchange and was active in its bodies for a number of years. Pavel holds a masters in the theory of probability and mathematical statistics at the Charles University of Prague. He passed several postgraduate trainee programs in economics, financial markets and asset management in London, Zurich and Geneva.
